Dubai: To maintain a high standard of service, the UAE has set specific regulations for those who wish to work as nurses in the government or private sectors.
It is required that nurses continuously work on developing their nursing skills and knowledge on a regular basis. To protect people's health and safety, the Ministry of Health has stressed that all nurses or midwives must meet a minimum criteria to practice their occupation here.
Nurses can apply for a job at the Ministry of Health in Abu Dhabi or Dubai and if the application is accepted, the person may work at any of the seven emirates.

Sri Lanka to sign MoU with Jordan, Kuwait
Protection, safety of Lankan migrant workers
COLOMBO: Sri Lanka will sign several Memoranda of Understanding with the Governments of Jordan and Kuwait this week which will enhance the protection and the safety of Sri Lankan migrant workers living in these two countries.
Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said the signing of the MoUs will take place parallel to President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s visit to the two countries.
The first MoU will be signed between Rambukwella and Jordanian Labour Minister Bassir Al Kalam tomorrow.
“It is expected to improve the conditions of the Sri Lankan migrant workers several fold considering the early MoU signed between the two countries in 2006,” Rambukwella said.
“The workers will get a compulsory Insurance scheme under the new MoU. It will help them to obtain their salaries on time without unnecessary delays being forced on them.

UAE : Settling labour issues in court
Expatriates have the right to file a case in the Court of First Instance if the Ministry of Labour does not solve their problems or complaints.
The Court of First Instance is the first stage of litigation. The Court of Appeal is the second stage and the Court of Cassation is the final stage of litigation. Workers and labourers need to submit two copies of the petition filed at the labour ministry and the information must include the full names, address, the facts and the claims.

Limited contract workers can shift jobs
Abu Dhabi: Workers with limited contracts can transfer their sponsorship to another company - even a competitor - without the approval of their old sponsor in case the sponsor breaches the contract, says a labour ministry official.
Juma Al Rumaithi, a legal consultant at the ministry, said employees can transfer their sponsorship directly through the ministry in case the employer was not committed to the terms and conditions in the contract.
