Stay Alert - Female job seeker travel to UAE

Dear Members,
I have been informed about a case where a Sri Lankan female job seeker has been kidnapped and kept in a secret location by another Sri Lankan lady in UAE

When explored further into the case, what I can see is, family members back home have acted very careless and they do not even have a copy of the travelers passport or visa copy.

1. Please be extra careful when single females travel into any unknown country.
2. Do background checks and look for some relative or friend in UAE before departure
3. Prostitution rackets are happening time to time therefore, do not get caught to human traffickers
4. Wherever you stay, provide location pin / address details to your loved ones or friends. In case of emergency, these information would be useful
5. Using shared bed spaces can be tricky and dangerous to young girls
6. Use a SLBFE registered / UAE registered Travel agent whenever possible
7. Airport pickup and transportation : Make sure you have agreed with your company or boss, who will come to collect you from the airport. Get their name and contact number (if possible vehicle number) in advance. Check these details and only if they match, get into their vehicle
8. Work while on visit visa - Some companies will interview you and then ask you to work for them while on visit visa. This is illegal and in most cases, they will let you work for them till your visit is over and kick you out with no salary.

Remember, those who come on visit visas do not receive a lot of support from Sri Lankan Embassy in UAE. Their priority is only those come with a SLBFE stamp ( I personally discussed and verified this matter with the officials in Abu Dhabi SL embassy)
If you get into any trouble, your first point of contact should be Dubai police. They are very capable and professional

Sahana foundation is also there, but I am not sure how much they can do for those on visit visas
